From its initial broadcast in 1963 until 1988, the BBC television series Doctor Who was mixed and transmitted on British television with monaural sound. For some of the Blu-ray releases, composer Mark Ayres was able to create mixes solely from original mono transmission masters – even though separate dialogue, sound effects and music stems did not exist.
Taking inspiration from Ayres' work, GnC Films has created a stereo remix of a sequence from the Doctor Who serial, "The Invasion" (1968). The original source was the mono soundtrack as created for the story's transmission in the late 1960s. No additional elements have been added. Depending on your listening environment, you may wish to view this video whilst listening on headphones.
